Jason Auricchio is the Founder and President of FAME Financial Group, LLC. and has served the financial services industry since 2007. Jason serves as an NFLPA Registered Player Financial Advisor and founded FAME to serve the unique financial planning needs of professional athletes and entertainers. A former athlete himself, Jason strives to build trusting relationships with our clients on the basis of honesty, integrity and expert guidance. Jason was born and raised in Miami, Florida. He is married to wife, Cristina, and they have two children, Matthew and Caleb. Jason is a proud alumnus from Florida International University, holding Bachelors degrees in both Finance and International Business, and has served on the Alumni Association's Board of Directors.
Tell us about where you grew up and what hobbies you enjoyed as a kid.
Born and raised in Miami, FL…for as long as I can remember, life revolved around school and sports. Played all sports when I was younger, but my love for playing basketball overtook all others and played it year round.
What inspired you to pursue a career in the financial services industry?
Numbers always came naturally to me, and after double majoring in finance and international business, the entrepreneurial nature and unlimited upside potential drew me to the career right out of school.
Your area of expertise involves working with NFL players. How would you advise a new advisor on approaching this target market? It’s definitely not the easiest market to break into and is hyper competitive. While it definitely benefits you to have relationships with players/managers/agents, that on its own is not usually enough to convert a friendship or acquaintance into a business relationship. Some things that benefited my path was to obtain credentials and licenses as quickly as possible, learned the ins and outs of professional aspects to market myself as a specialist and expert in the industry, and found a way to distinguish myself from all of the other financial advisors I’d be competing against.
What advice would you give to a new agent in terms of how to prospect? Always be on time, do what you say you are going to do (no matter how small the task), get licenses/credentials asap, and whatever activity metrics your mentors suggest…try to do more!
How did you start playing basketball? With young kiddos at home, do you encourage them to pick up basketball or any other sports for that matter? I started playing first at home at a hoop my parents bought and set up when I was a toddler…and then began playing youth optimist leagues starting at 6. Absolutely! My kids have my sports equipment, balls, nets, etc than I ever had. They enjoy playing all sports, and as Covid quarantine started to lift, we put them in a baseball academy and they’ve been paying since they were 4 and 3 respectively. Aside from staying in shape and enjoying the sport, they learn accountability, teamwork and numerous other skills that will benefit them as they grow.
How has this sport enhanced your skills as well as provided opportunities as a professional? Definitely, lessons of teamwork, accountability and dealing with numerous personalities for one goal are some things that are obvious takeaways….but especially being an advisor in the sports industry, my past experience has given me a relatability and greater appreciation to the athletes who are the top 1% of the top 1% of their craft. Knowing the work that is required, the ups and downs, ,etc…definitely gives me a better perspective and understanding of the young men and women I sit down with.
Who is your favorite basketball team? Where is the best place you have seen them play? I’ll give you two answers. My favorite player growing up was Karl Malone from the Utah Jazz, and was able to see him live courtside for a game in Miami when I was about 10 and he even gave me his game used wristbands. After he retired, definitely rooted (and still root) for the Miami Heat, and was able to watch a few NBA finals games live in person during the Lebron James years in Miami.
